I began practice in 1975, as a member of the Staff Counsel for Inmates (TDCJ-CID), in Huntsville, Texas. I was appointed General Counsel to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles in Austin, then later become a member of the Central Staff of the Court of Criminal Appeals. I remained at the Court for almost twenty-five years, ultimately leading the habeas section of the Staff. I retired from the Court of Criminal Appeals in 2003 and, entered private practice.

Since 2004, I have operated the Jasuta Law firm. With the assistance of a select group of associates, the firm provides turn key appellate, post-conviction, and related clerical services to private law firms, prosecutor's offices, and judges.

Every year since 2009, I have been selected as a Super Lawyer, which is a listing of outstanding lawyers compiled by Thompson Reuters Service, from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Some of my associates are also "Super Lawyers."
